TTP has extensive background in electro-active optic devices and systems, from a patented liquid crystal switchable lens technology to electro-absorption devices, with applications in a range of markets including consumer products and healthcare.
One particular example is our electro-active liquid crystal lens technology. It enables an otherwise invisible optical lens to be switched ‘on’ by applying a low voltage. This enables a solid-state lens with electronically controllable optical power. The technology was originated at TTP and we are now in the process of refining the technology and developing the manufacturing process.
The expertise employed in this development includes detailed diffractive lens design and liquid crystal cell fabrication, including liquid crystal alignment processes, electrode coating methods and engineering of automated manufacturing systems.
We are currently working with an international client to develop and commercialise this novel low cost, low power consumption electro-active lens technology in a number of markets.
